Has anyone ever successfully gotten a Carfax report error resolved? I looking at swapping my Taco for a full-size and today a dealership tells me my truck has structural damage. I can assure you it does not. It was hailed on and repaired at a local autobody shop.
Anyway. Filed a complaint/revision request with Carfax but I don’t have high hopes. How do you prove a negative? More over, if I get the truck inspected and submit it, there’s no guarantee that Carfax will do anything. I suspect they would not reimburse me for their error and costs associated with getting it fixed.
I doubt I could sue them as they state their reports are not 100% guaranteed. Even still, a dealership won’t take it in on a reasonable trade because of the “structural damage.”
The trade-in difference between a damaged truck and non-damaged is 10-12K.
For your time.

I'm guessing it wasn't totalled, so I think you need to petition the body shop and your insurance company to fix this on your behalf (you are the customer of both, hopefully not again of the body shop but you can tell them how you might or not recommend). Might take a little time, but the $ will be worth it. A ding for hail will still cost you though

What state are you in? If you know a local lawyer a quick letter and some photos might resolve it.

My CarFax says airbag deployment even though it never happened.

No wasn’t totalled. Truck had about 10K in damage and was a little over a year old at the time.

I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s honest that they have the wreck down. At least it’s not a Structural Damage Reported.

From experience working at a dealer, CarFax can been really hard to deal with when it comes to fixing stuff like this.
Is the structural damage that’s being reported on behalf of the body shop that fixed your car?

I dealt with Autocheck fairly frequently. You’ll have to track down who reported that in Carfax’s system. From there you’ll have to work with the other 2 parties to understand the paperwork/due diligence needed. No promises about the process either.
As someone else said you may want to ask how much this impacts the vehicles value for trade in. May not be worth the hassle.
Could also go to Carmax and have them do an appraisal. They use Autocheck and the other system may show different info.

As not your lawyer it sounds a little like tortious interference so you may want to research that and bring it up in a letter to Carfax. Your attorney can guide you better. Tortious interference sounds like tortoise interference which is way funnier.

Don’t know. Doesn’t show. I mean they did replace the roof but it’s a BOF.

I’m looking into diminished value claims but it was 3 years ago. I’m not sure I would get any movement.

I’m looking into a diminished value claim and seeing if that is possible. I’m going to try and get the dealer to send me 2 trade-in quotes. One as is, one clean. That should provide a real number.

Structure damage and frame damage are two separate things.
I know it’s body on frame, but the r roof is still structural. It’s not the main structure, but it’s still a structure and it was damaged.
Who’s to say it would behave the same as an unreplaced roof in a rollover accident?
Good luck with your claim.

That’s probably what’s flagging it as structural damage. It’d help out if we could see the actual report.
CarFax is very much all over the place in what is considered structural damage. They supposedly follow NAAA standards but I have a hard time believing that based off the issues we’ve had with them.
